For HEAT, kutin | kindlinger examine the thermal energy which is produced when making music with a classical music instrument and which remains after the music has stopped. You can see and hear this as part of the installation. In terms of composition, they use four bars of Schubert’s piece ERSTARRUNG (NUMBNESS) from the song cycle WINTERREISE (WINTER JOURNEY), ‘reheating’ parts of this ‘cold’ music piece for HEAT. kutin | kindlinger’s complex arrangement, which is driven by the mutual interaction of fleeting thermal images and their corresponding sounds, helped build a dramaturgical development which does have something spooky about it.
